When we moved into our new home, we splurged and got plantation shutters all throughout the house. This is one of my favorite features of the home. I love them! But now, I am ready to dress them up and warm up my rooms.
There are so many ways you can go with window treatments, and here are some of my favorite unique window treatments!
Unique Window Treatments
Tutu
This usually works best as a valance, and not full on curtains, but it is possible. The tutus are a great way to add both color and a touch of personality to the bedroom!
Sheet Music
If you have a music room, or someone in your family just loves music, then this is a great window treatment idea! Use sheet music to make an awesome valance that is sure to catch some eyes!
Sports
Another great theme for a window treatment is sports! You can choose one specific sport, or if you want to cover all of them, then go for it!
The valance is really going to bring everything together, but you can make the curtains sports-themed as well with all sorts of sports equipment on it!
Film
Window film is a great middle ground between shades and nothing. These are especially helpful if you have French panes or windows in a door that you often use.
Film allows for each pane to be covered differently, which gives you light but still privacy.
Roman Shades
This are a classic window treatment that add style and elegance to any room. They’re both decorative and practical and really pull a room together. You can get roman shades that completely block out the light, or ones that have fun designs and filter some light in as well.
Interior Shutters
Interior shutters are a great way to add privacy and beauty to any room of the house. However, they’re most common in bathrooms and bedrooms, but you can install them anywhere you want.
Interior shutters come in almost any color, material, and price range, so just find some you like and go for it!
Curtain Rod
This may seem like a small, unimportant part of a window treatment, but the curtain rod can really help add to the theme and style of a room.
Choose a curtain rod that’s unique (don’t settle for boring, bland ones) by using pipes, glass, or even a branch!
Valances
If you don’t want to block any light from coming in, but you still want to add some color and style to your window, then try a valance.
These brighten up your window but still allow all the light to come through. Choose fun colors that accent the rest of the color scheme in your home.
Barn Door
If you’re going for a great rustic feel in your home, then use a set of barn doors to fit around your window! It looks awesome and really makes your home radiate rustic and country!
Plants
You can really dress up your window by adding some plants, flowers, and greens to it! There are tons of different ways to do this: have a plant of wood across the top for planters to sit on, hang mason jars from above the window, and so many more!
Side Curtains
The classic window curtain rod just goes straight across the top of the window. Break away from traditional and put one rod on each side of the window.
You can use this purely as decoration, or you can make it practical by making the rods extendable across the top.
Surfboard
If you’ve got one that you’re not using anymore, put a surfboard above (or to the side) of a window to let your hobby shine! This can really pull the theme of the room together! A surfboard is one of the best unique window treatments!
Sign
Add some cheeriness to the room by putting a sign above the window. Write a family motto, funny quote, song lyric, or anything else you want on it.
Swing Arm
These aren’t for everyone, but they’re really a great invention that looks great in almost any room. Instead of sliding the curtain across the rod, these just swing in and out so that you can block or let in the sun while also having a nice set of curtains off to the side.
Fun Design
While this may not be the most practical window treatment by itself, it really gives the room personality and style. You can combine it with other features (like curtains or shades), but have fun and add a creative design or aspect that you’ll love!
I hope these unique window treatments have inspired you to add some spice to your home!
