It doesn’t matter the size of the rooms in your personal space, because knowing how to arrange the furniture like a pro is key. Great furniture arrangement maximizes the space and the comfort level of each room.
When you arrange your living room space, there are some key things to remember. First of all, don’t crowd the space. Leave plenty of room for coming and going. Second, your furniture pieces don’t need to be against the walls. Set up conversation spots around a fireplace, and pair up chairs to maximize the seating.
Another key thing to remember is that if your room offers a nice view, be sure to capitalize on that by arranging the seating so you and your guests can enjoy it.
In an irregularly shaped room, use the perimeter for things like computer desks and storage. Center your seating pieces around the fireplace and/or the television. Leave a wide area for traffic.
Most people want to place their bed under the window, but Better Homes & Gardens suggests placing it opposite the window in a long bedroom so you can enjoy the view. Any desk or table and chair should be located across from the doorway.
In a bedroom that is a solid square, use the bed to anchor the space by placing it so that it’s the focal point of the room. Use an area rug that extends two feet around the bed to further anchor the space.
When you select dining room furniture, measure your table for the seating space you need. Per place setting, allow for 20-24 inches width and 15 inches of depth. You’ll want 6 inches of room on either side of each chair so your guests will feel comfortable but never crowded. Arrange the table and chairs in the center of the space, with complementary pieces such as a buffet table around the outside.
