If you’re going to make a playroom for your kids and their friends, you might as well go full force. No point in dedicating a whole room to their toys and doing it half-baked. Try some of these great ways to make the best playroom possible for your kids!
The first thing you want to think about is how you’re going to keep things organized. No doubt, the playroom is going to get messy so you’re going to want to have a system that gets things neat and organized quickly. Try baskets, containers, tubs, etc. to organize.
If you’re kids are already climbing up the walls, you might as well make it official! Make a mini climbing wall for your kids and their friends to enjoy whenever they need to burn a little extra energy. Make sure it’s safe and there’s a cushion below just in case they fall!
It may be a good idea to incorporate lots of fun kid furniture for the playroom. You want it to feel natural and comfortable for them, so adult furniture probably isn’t going to work. Anything from chairs to beanbags could work.
If you really want to make an awesome playroom, then give it a theme! You could do underwater, enchanted forest, knight’s castle, or something else! Get your kids involved and have the whole family pick a fun theme!
Playrooms come with lots of toys and gadgets, so utilize any space you can. One place that often goes unused is behind the door. Get a shoe organizer or something similar to drape over the back of any doors in order to maximize your storage space.
Let’s be honest: kids aren’t the best at remembering things. So, to make clean up a bit easier and manageable, label everything! Label the boxes and tubs so your kids can remember where to put all their toys. This also helps them learn how to read, if they’re old enough, so it’s a win-win!
If possible, build a mini entrance to part of your playroom! This will make the kids excited to use it and make it really look like a kid’s playroom! Make sure that you can fit through it though, if need be!
One of the inevitable experiences of having kids is that they’ll write on the walls. So, instead of being frustrated when that happens, embrace it! Make chalkboard walls that your kids can write on—and that wash off easily! What a great way to instill artistic creativity!
If making arts and crafts is a big part of your playroom, then designate a wall or section of the playroom for art displays! Include clips, pushpins, string, etc. so your kids can hang up and show off their great masterpieces.
The best part about a playroom is that it’s supposed to be fun! That means you can choose fun and bright colors and not worry about it looking weird! Go crazy (but within limits) with the colors so the playroom always looks bright and inviting!
When choosing the color for your playroom, something else that is fun is painting things that don’t normally get colors! That means you can paint the fan blades, doorknobs, and even hinges on the door! Go to town with all the accent colors in the playroom.
Another way to keep things neat and organized is by making personalized bins for each of your kids. Knowing that they have person responsibility for their toys and items will make it easier to get them to clean up.
If you’re feeling artistic, then dedicate one of the walls of your playroom as a mural wall! You can do any kind of artwork you and your family want—just make it fun and enjoyable! There are tons of ideas you could do, so the sky is the limit!
For those kids who love playing dress up, the playroom can quickly look like a clothing bomb went off. If that’s that case for your playroom, make a clothing storage spot that houses all the shirts, shoes, dresses, and feather boas!
Designate a corner of your playroom as a nap area, since kids often get pooped out from playing so hard. You can even make it super inviting by turning it into a teepee or something similar! Stack it with fluffy and comfortable blankets and pillows.
